Since the creation of the AsktheEU.org platform in September 2011, increasing numbers of citizens have been logging in and making requests to EU institutions. This has not gone unnoticed. The 2012 Council report on access to documents acknowledges that, “Since 2012, the number of initial requests for access sent to the General Secretariat of the Council via the AsktheEU.org platform has been continuously rising.”
This table shows the quarterly number of requests that have been made through the AsktheEU.org platform. This last quarter we saw almost 180 requests made to EU institutions.
Thanks to the open-source platform, making requests for information has been much easier for citizens. AsktheEU.org facilitates the communication and helps the requester send their questions to the right institution and publishing the answers. Accessing public information is our right as EU citizens and making use of this right is essential to ferment public participation in decision-making and to hold European institutions accountable.Desde la creación de la plataforma de AsktheEU.org en Septiembre de 2011 sigue aumentando el número de ciudadanos que inician sessión y solicitan información de las instituciones de la Unión Europea. Este fenómeno no ha pasado desapercibido. El Informe del Consejo de 2012 sobre el acceso a documentos señaló que “desde el 2012 el número de solicitudes de acceso iniciales mandados a la Secretaría General del Consejo através de la plataforma AsktheEU.org ha estado en constante aumento.”
Esta gráfica muestra de forma trimestral la cantidad de solicitudes que se han hecho através de la plataforma de AsktheEU.org. Éste último trimestre nos llegaron casi 180 solicitudes hechas a las diferentes instituciones europeas.
Gracias a la plataforma de libre software, para los ciudadanos de Europa es ahora más fácil solicitar información. AsktheEU.org facilita la comunicación, ayuda a los solicitantes a mandar sus preguntas a la institución apropiada y pública las respuestas. Como ciudadanos de la Unión Europea tenemos derecho al acceso de información pública y el uso de este derecho es fundamental para poder fomentar la participación pública en la toma de decisiones y hacer que las instituciones de la UE rindan cuentas de lo que hacen.
